The obverse of the coin features the inscription "IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG," which translates to "Emperor Gordian the Pious, the Blessed, Augustus." The design shows a radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Gordian III facing right, with the bust viewed from behind.
On the reverse, the inscription reads "PROVID AVG," an abbreviation for "Providentia Augusti," meaning "The Providence of the Augustus." The design depicts Providentia, the Roman goddess of foresight, standing facing forward with her head turned to the left. She holds a wand in her right hand, pointing downward towards a globe at her feet, symbolizing control and stability, while holding a scepter in her left hand, signifying authority.
