A beautiful rectangular low table 座卓 (zataku) featuring a shiny black lacquer finish 蝋色漆 (rôiro’urushi) adorned with a chinkin’bori 沈金彫 (lit. "gold-inlay carving") design. The artwork showcases a large ancient pine tree 松 (matsu) with a curving, moss-covered trunk and long branches extending across the scene.
In Japanese culture, the evergreen pine tree symbolizes longevity, good fortune, and steadfastness. It is often associated with virtue and long life, even immortality. The pine tree is also iconic of the Japanese New Year, representing rebirth, renewal, and a bright, hopeful future.
Signed and sealed in the lower left corner of the top surface: Kasen/Kôsen 香仙.

Period: Japan – 60s-70s (Shôwa period).
