Unknown - Quran - 1840

A leaf rescued from an early, but damaged, C19th Koran, scribed in Kashmir. The leaf covers the final verses of the very short Medinian Chapter 99, Az-Zalzalah (The Ultimate Quake) v4-8, and the first verses of the Meccan Chapter 100, Al-Adiyat, (The Galloping Horses) v1-9. These short verses, coming to the end of the Quran, state that all deeds will be brought to light and accounted for on judgement day and stresses the fact that people are accountable for their ingratitude. Thefolio contains a very nicely illuminated Surah in blue script within a gold cartouche and arabesque dressings on a celestial blue background, and 10 (ten) lines of beautifully scripted naskh in a firm hand. The verses are scribed within a rectangular box surrounded by solid gold trim, with several plain gold roundels marking out the verses and devotional markings in red. The marginal Juz decorations are simple devices marking the 5th verse of Chapter 99 and the heading of Chapter 100. A neat gold and red floral device embellishes the corner (top right). This is well preserved and interesting leaf containing some prophetic scripture. Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing. Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This will likely vary between 5% and 20% of the sale price depending on your country's Import Rate, so please check this if you are concerned. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional fee charged by us.
