Placa de mortalidad de cangrejos gigantes fósiles de calidad museística - Caparazón fósil - Charybdis annulata (Fabricius)

Museum Top quality double spiny Fossil giant Crab Charybdis from the lower Pliocene of Bodjong formation, Java, Indonesia. This stunning piece is truly a Jewel, showing two large complete specimens together, on wood display. The appearance of this piece is exceptional, impossible to go unnoticed. The 3D preparation made by Don is astonishing, the result of painstaking work of many days to expose these specimens and preserve all those tiny details on the claws and on legs, like all the tiny spines or the tips of the legs. Upper crab, the largest, is 18 cm from leg to leg and preserve all the 8 legs to the nail tip, also the swimming paddles. Lower crab is 16 cm from leg to leg and preserves almost all the legs. These crabs almost appear to be alive, prepared as if they were still hiding in their "hole" burrows. Plate is 37x 15 x 9cm. Overall size is 40 cm high. This kind of preservation is extraordinary as once the specimen dies, it disarticulates. "Post Mortem" the legs contract under the claws, this is the natural way all the fossil crabs are found. The fossils from this site are actually under study and a revision of the nomenclature is underway, that means that the species can change. Most likely, new sub-species or variants will be added. That's the reason why we don't add the species at the moment. Restored 1% (only one right claw of the left specimen is been restored(glued but not recostructed) . NOTE: THIS SPECIMEN IS NOT A COMPOSITE OF TWO CRABS . These two specimens died together. 100% garantee. Original fossil. A worthy example for this Auction, where the quality of conservation, the rarity and the museum preparation are at the top.
