A Western Asiatic restrung necklace composed of alternating larger polygonal, rounded, or tubular beads and smaller rounded beads, all made of hardstone, in different shades and hues of red. The beads continue in this pattern until the centrepiece, which is a pendant-like formation of 4 beads, the top conical, the next two rounded, and finally a striped tubular bead. Some chips and wear consistent with age. Please note this necklace is unclasped and threaded on string. Jewellery is thought to be one of the oldest forms of art within history, with the presence of rings, bangles and necklaces’ being present in almost all ancient societies. The Western Asiatic during Mesopotamia is home to many interesting and unique jewellery patterns, with hardstone being the common material of choice for ancient citizens to decorate themselves with. The sophisticated nature of the society can be seen through their jewellery making skills with elaborate patterns and carvings being common find.
