Luristan Bronze Axe Head
Circa 2nd-1st millennium BC
This nice example of a bronze axe head features a tubular shaft extending downwards at the rear side and the flat top. The flaring blade culminates in a curved cutting edge. A pair of horizontal spikes protrude from the rear of the shaft, adding both functional and decorative elements to this well-crafted tool.
Dimensions: 60mm x 110mm; weight 270g
Provenance: Acquired from M.D.; previously in an old British collection, formed in before 2000 on the UK / International art markets.
