Byzantine Bronze Oil Lamp
Circa 5th-8th century AD
This bronze oil lamp features a flattened circular body with a large filling hole and a long open spout. It has a ring handle and two lateral protrusions, all sitting on a low ring base.
Oil lamps were essential household items used for illumination in ancient times. Typically made of pottery or bronze, these lamps featured a shallow dish filled with oil and a wick inserted through a hole in the spout. The wick was lit, providing a steady flame for lighting indoor spaces during the evening hours.
