This scroll comes with a certificate of authenticity by Utsumi Kichido 内海吉堂 (1850-1923) a disciple of Shiokawa Bunrin, dated 1919 (Taisho 8).
塩川文麟 Shiokawa Bunrin (1808-1877)
A painter of the Shijo School in Kyoto. Studied under Okamoto Toyohiko and became a central figure of the Shijo school. He excelled in Sansui landscape painting. His painting style was observational and energetic. He was also an excellent educator. His pupil was Kono Bairei.

内海吉堂 Utsumi Kichido (1850-1923)
Born in Tsuruga. Moved to Taga-cho, Shiga Prefecture in his childhood. Studied under Bunrin Shiokawa.
Traveled to China for 6 years from 1877 (Meiji 10). After returning to Japan, based in Kyoto as a nanga artist. Produced the wall paintings of the Mikageido of Higashi Honganji Temple.
