It is in the city square that the Dão wine festival happens in September of each year. Nelas also hosts a Centre of Viniculture Studies of the Dão, famous for the longevity of its wines. The vineyard has 6 hectares that were planted in year 2000 with traditional grape varieties of which Touriga Nacional accounts for about 50%. More recently 1,5 hectares of old vines were incorporated to the Estate. The mean altitude is 430 meters. Gentle slope and sandy soil (decomposed granite) provide a good drainage. Rainfall is 900 mm/year, concentrated in the winter. Temperature ranges from freezing point in winter to 30 Celsius or more during summertime. The diurnal temperature amplitude is high (days may be warm, but nights are always cool). This provides ideal conditions for a gradual ripening of the grape, and the freshness of the wines. Our orientation has always been to respect the character of Dão and embrace its long tradition of producing some of the best nectars in Portugal from local varieties, such as Touriga Nacional and Encruzado. Our inspiration is to take these Portuguese jewels to the whole world. We combine intelligent ancestral practices, which even today bring quality to wines, with modern oenological knowledge. The result is authentic, high quality, elegant and gastronomic wines. VINIFICATION The harvest was done by hand, from the best portion of Touriga Nacional from our Quinta. The grapes were transported to the winery in 22kg boxes, where they were completely stemmed followed by crushing and fermentation with careful maceration to better express the grape variety's typicality. Malolactic fermentation took place mainly in French oak barrels where it also aged for around 1 year. TASTING NOTES Wine with a delicate fruit aroma typical of the variety. Violet-type floral notes and touches of ripe black fruit jam and sweet and mineral notes predominate. In the mouth it presents volume, structure and good acidity. Wine with body and structure that balance well with its natural acidity and mineral character. TASTING NOTES Intense ruby colored wine with aromas of ripe red fruits, wild blackberries and toasted, spicy and sweet notes. Some floral and mineral notes. Wine with a soft body and structure that balances well with its natural acidity and mineral character. It is a fresh wine, with volume and roundness with a harmonious finish.
