*La Trappe & Brewdog Practise what you preach Barrel aged Scotch Whisky — 75CL
Very exclusive and limited edition.
When we first brewed Practice What You Preach, we secretly took some of the beer aside and stored it away for ageing in freshly emptied Scottish Whisky casks. Now clocking in at 11% ABV, this Quaduple boasts all the characteristics of the classic Trappist-style with swathes of rich whisky after 9 months in La Trappe's cellar. This is a one-off beer we've brewed to share with friends.
Brewed together for a good cause: Made Blue -> Making clean drinking water available to everyone for whom this is not self-evident. This limited edition beer is a heartwarming Quadriple with Scottish heather honey and American hops.

*La Trappe Quadrupple Barrel Aged - Batch 39 Limited Edition
Whisk(e)y barrels were used as the basis for batch 39, on which La Trappe Quadrupel has matured for over 2 years. These barrels come from distilleries of the Irish 'Jameson' and from the Scottish 'Speyside' region. Before these barrels were used for the maturation of whisk(e)y, the barrels were used for the production of sherry. Aromas of both drinks are recognizable in this batch.
The smell of this batch is very fruity, with the aroma of pear and dark forest fruits immediately recognizable. Soft aromas of oak and vanilla are present in the background. The mouthfeel starts sharp with the whisk(e)y present in a subtle way. As the sip progresses, the flavor softens. In the aftertaste, licorice and licorice predominate.
The whisk(e)y's used in this beer, in contrast to most Scotch whisk(e)y's, have a very soft taste. This results in a balanced and accessible beer.
Batch 39 was blended in August 2020.

*La Trappe Quadrupple Barrel Aged - Batch 40 Limited Edition
As a basis for Batch 40, Port casks have been used on which the La Trappe Quadrupel has matured for 22 months. In addition, a number of new oak barrels have been used to strengthen the wood character of the beer.
The beer is slightly cloudy and has a red-brown colour. The aroma of oak clearly emerges in the aroma, in addition, there are also slightly fruity aromas present. A little more in the background, aromas can be recognized that are reminiscent of vanilla, port and mushrooms.
The fine carbon dioxide bubbles and the relatively sharp taste give the beer a fairly dry mouthfeel. The taste has a nice balance between oak, port and aromas of dried fruit such as raisins and figs. The aftertaste is alcohol warm with the sweet taste of caramel malt present.
Batch 40 was blended in November 2020.

*La Trappe Quadrupple Barrel Aged - Batch 41 Limited Edition
For batch 41, the La Trappe Quadrupel has matured for over 2 years in red wine barrels from the French Gaillac region. The grape varieties Braucol and Duras are used for this red wine. The Braucol grape is known for its spicy aromas of green peppers, black currants and red currants. Duras grapes are known for their body, structure, spicy aromas and fine tannins. This red wine has given its flavor to the oak barrels used for this batch for 3 years.
When pouring this beer, you immediately notice the deep red and opaque appearance. The fine carbon dioxide bubbles ensure a nice foam head. Powerful aromas of wood and pepper emerge first, followed by the softer aromas of red wine, dark fruit, vanilla and caramel.
This batch is characterized by the robust influence of the red wine. The taste of the red wine starts full and fruity with hints of red and black currants, raisins and walnuts. The high tannin content gives the beer a sharp and fresh sour mouthfeel. Together with the slightly sweet, malty undertone of the Quadrupel, this results in a harmonious finish.
Batch 41 is characterized as a perfect marriage between La Trappe Quadrupel, red wine and oak. Serve this beer at a temperature between 16 and 18°C to make it stand out best.
