The classic architecture and women in kimonos, under umbrellas, make this a quintessentially Japanese scene. The bright colors of the women’s kimonos stand out against the soft background, simply beautiful. It bears the "Jikoku" seal in the upper left margin to indicate that Toshi Yoshida carved the blocks for this print himself, an original 1st edition, which bears the date Showa 15, which is 1940. It also bears its title seal, and Toshi's name in Japanese, and his name and the print's title in western script in the bottom margin. It is in very good condition. direct from the publisher.. This print is later edition (atozuri) by printer Numabe Shinkichi of the Yoshida studio, made from the original blocks! Born in Tokyo, Toshi Yoshida was the eldest son of Hiroshi Yoshida the renowned shin hanga master. Under his father's influence, Toshi began to learn painting at age 3 and woodblock printing at age 13. In 1929 he traveled with his father to India and Southeast Asia making sketches for future prints.
