Painting on canvas of the famous beauty Elizabeth Gunning, wife of two dukes and mother of four dukes. Married to the 6th Duke of Hamilton in 1752 and after his death the 5th Duke of Argyll in 1759. The painting is suggested to be one of famous but eccentric Irish Painter Nathaniel Hone, works (1718-1784) the painting was owned by my Great Grand Father LT Col Francis J Mew who was the Major of Newport (Isle of Wight). He had a substantial collection of art, this along with 'the Dog' and 'Money Changers' are the last of his collection still owned by the family.
