A collection of light-blue middle-sized glass beads found in Ethiopia. These beads were originally produced in Holland in the 17th-18th Cent., using kobalt to obtain the blue colour. There are different shapes of blue visible in this selection. These lamp-wound beads were used as tradebeads and were taken with ships en route to the East, serving as a ballast on the ship and as a form of payment of goods.
These beads were very popular with certain tribes in the South of Ethiopia. Height apprx. 20 mm.
Collected in Addis Abeba in the late 1990's.
