SUN ON 6. Calais, VT: Z Press, 2000. This is a single poem of disjointed, yet flowing phrases, widely-spaced, and to be read in a linear fashion. Author Jeff Clark is an award-winning experimental poet, editor, prolific book designer, and occasional publisher of radical and outsider books.
Tipped in, facing the poem, is a black on white reproduction of a linocut print by artist Jasper Johns. Occasionally, his art was based on an ambiguous image that used multistable perception to resolve in different ways. This image depicts either the profiles of 2 or 3 human heads, or a tilted, misshapen vase and its shadow. Renowned artist Jasper Johns was instrumental in bringing common objects and mass culture topics into modern art. Johns presented visual ideas to be interpreted and resolved by the viewer.
