Viking Era Iron Axe Head
Circa 10th-11th century AD
This iron axe head is characterized by its reinforced socket, rounded cheek, and curved blade. The rear extension features a hammerhead, adding versatility to its functionality.
Crafted primarily from iron, these axe heads were characterized by their robust construction and functional design. Some variations included a bearded design, where the lower portion of the blade extended downward, allowing for a more effective hooking or pulling action. Viking axes were versatile implements, serving both practical purposes such as woodcutting, woodworking, and agriculture, as well as military applications in combat and raids.
