Unknown - Qur'an - Persia - illuminated miniature leaf - 1680

A fine leaf from a Qur'an of Persian origin scribed in the late C17th, with an illuminated header (Surah) and detailed Juz in the margin in the shape of a vase with a decorative headpiece. it is miniature in all aspects, managing to fit within the body of the scripture, 14 lines of fine naskh script in black ink, with Persian commentary in red ink in the spaces between the lines of scripture. The script is divided by a Surah containing great written detail within a gold cartouche and book ended by blue and gold arabesque florals. Multiple gold aya, best seen in image 3b, mark the verses: these are complex given their size with a central dot and a division into 4 parts with radials from the centre to the circumference. This leaf is in great shape for its age and is hinged (see image 2) with photographic corners so could be easily removed for mounting or framing. Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing. Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This will likely vary between 5% and 20% of the sale price depending on your country's Import Rate, so please check this if you are concerned. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional fee charged by us.
