- Sekhmet is a goddes from the ancient Egyptian mythology, also known as the eye of Ra. She is the wife of Ptah, and she was believed to be the mother of Nefertem. Sechmet had a lions face and was the goddes of retribution, disease and lionesses. In the eyes of the Egyptians she was a very powerful goddes and she symbolised the destructive force of the sun. Her cult was mainly located in Memphis.
She is depicted with the fierce visage of a lioness atop the body of a woman, administered the divine retribution decreed by the gods. She held particular significance among healers, who were ordained as "pure-priests of Sekhmet," especially sought after for their incantations to ward off plagues. Amulets bearing her likeness were believed to ward off premature death. Additionally, she was revered as the goddess presiding over the southern sycamore at Memphis.
