Hergé Tintin in the Catholic Illustration, 1959, Tintin in Tibet - Kuifje

Hergé Tintin in the Catholic Illustration, 1959, Tintin in Tibet - Kuifje

In the Catholic Illustration (KI) 8 different Tintin stories were published during the period 1954 - 1968.

The Secret of the Unicorn (1954, 55)
The Treasure of the Unicorn (1955, '56)
The Mysterious Star (1956, '57)
The Latest Adventures of Tintin
Tintin in Tibet (1959, '60)
Tintin in Africa (1960, '61)
The Jewels of Bianca Castafiore (1962, '63)
Flight 714 to Sydney (1968)

Some collectors have preserved the stories of Tintin from the KI by tearing out a loose page, but in this (and other) lot, all the covers have also been preserved, and complete articles on interesting developments in the world (the death of Kennedy, aviation and space travel) have also been kept. Thus, these lots not only represent Tintin but also provide an interesting glimpse into the events of the 1950s and 1960s.

For enthusiasts, the stories in the KI have an extra dimension: the use of color (mostly spot colors, often with a very creative interpretation) and the translation is often different from what we know from the albums. During the publication of Tintin in Tibet, there was a transition from spot color to color printing.

In this version, we see various scenes that were not published later in the album.
