Charles Edmond - L'Egypte à L'Exposition universelle de 1867 - 1867
Original edition of this detailed report, given by Charles Edmond (1822-1899) who served as commissioner of the Viceroy of Egypt at the 1867 World Exposition.
Work embellished with a frontispiece portrait of the Viceroy of Egypt Ismael Pasha engraved on steel, featuring 3 plates outside the text protected by serpents (Temple - Selamlik - Okel) and a folding plate (table of Egyptian customs, year 1865). Bound in a sturdy cherry half-morocco binding, with a five-nerve spine adorned with floral motifs and decorated with gilded tools.
Covers and rubbed edges, small tear at the lower margin. Scattered foxing. A beautiful fresh copy, well bound, complete with all its plates.
Achieving more wonders than its predecessors, the 1867 World's Fair, organized by Napoleon III in Paris, is one of the most important World's Fairs. To bring together 32 countries and their colonies, Napoleon III innovated so that "it would be more completely universal than the previous ones," particularly by organizing it by national pavilions, which would remain the formula for future exhibitions.
