The scene on this bronze refers to a famous episode from the Bhagavata Purana, where the god Krishna, in his youth, subdues the serpent Kaliya who was poisoning the waters of the Yamuna River. According to legend, Krishna danced on the serpent's heads to subdue it and force it to leave the waters of the river, thus purifying the region. This act symbolizes the victory of the divine over evil and corruption.
