Byzantine Bronze Crescent-shaped Pendant
Circa 13th century AD
A bronze pendant in the form of a crescent, featuring a raised central ridge and two rounded suspension loops at the upper corners. The surface is adorned with incised teardrop motifs and a faint circular emblem at the centre.
The Seljuks, a medieval Turkic dynasty, played a significant role in shaping the history of the Islamic world. Emerging in the 11th century AD, the Seljuks originated from the steppes of Central Asia. The dynasty began with Tughril Beg, establishing its dominion across a vast territory, including parts of Anatolia, the Middle East, and Central Asia.
Dimensions: 4.5 cm x 3 cm x 0.5 cm
Provenance: Private European Collection; formerly acquired from old UK and European collection formed since the 1970s.
