Substantial work by William Cave (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Cave) about 4th-century "fathers" of Christianity. "The merits of Cave as a writer consist in the thoroughness of his research, the clearness of his style, and, above all, the admirably lucid method of his arrangement."

Simply bound and beautifully printed in large format. Each "father" is introduced with a full-page illustration of which consists of a portrait and a scene from their life. Six of these are intact; two have the bottom scene cut out. Otherwise it's generally intact except: The spine is damaged; one full-page illustration is detached and damaged; and the last two pages are detached. The last four photos illustrate this damage accurately.

Despite its condition, it's a work that will enlighten and thrill students of the early church.
