Eran filtradores, y se alimentaban de zooplancton, como foraminíferos, pequeños crustáceos , moluscos, y fitoplancton. Los crinoideos "lirio" son una clase del filo equinodermos, del subfilo Pelmatozoa. Reciben el nombre común de lirios de mar.
