This novel tells the story of the life and travels in England and Russia of the Chester family and two little orphans. The adventures of this interesting nest are not purely imaginary. This narrative has a very truthful side. It is true that little creatures speak, while in reality they only make unintelligible sounds to those of us who have not made a thorough study of the language of animals; but the traits of courage, presence of mind, kindness, and the feelings attributed to the heroes are not invented. The feats attributed to them are based on science and on facts observed by witnesses who are absolutely worthy of belief.
