Green-blue Fluorite with Chalcedony, Galena and Baryte - Marsanges mine, Langeac, Auvergne, France - Height: 5.6 cm - Width: 4.8 cm- 70 g

Watch a video of this specimen by following the Vimeo link below: https://vimeo.com/1068550491 Jewel of French mineralogy, the Auvergne blue fluorite is sought after by collectors from all around the world. The Marsanges fluorite mine in the Langeac coal and spath fluor district was operated by several companies from 1830 to 1975. It was famous for its huge 21m width main fluorite vein, the thickest in the whole mining district! Good to excellent specimens were recovered in Marsanges during the mining period and after the shut down by local 'cristalliers'. Particularly, Marsanges has produced a few remarkable pockets of clear and lustrous blue fluorite, hence ranking among the best localities in the country for fluorite. Here is a fantastic specimen of zoned green-blue fluorite on quartz from Marsanges mine! It consists in a great aesthetics assemblage of highly glossy fluorite cubes, featuring a 2.5 cm focal top cube, all of them with unique metallic green-blue colour with delicate zonations (greenish stripes and more purplish zones). The left side of the crystals is coated with a thin and delicate layer of gravity-deposited chalcedony, that also supports small galena crystals. At the centre bottom of the specimen, notice a nice and unusual shape baryte crystal. The back of the specimen is fully recrystallized (it is almost a complete 'floater') and you can see a more greenish colour for the cubes. A very nice fluorite specimen from Marsanges, from a talented regional prospector collection!
