the Marapu amulets - Sumba - Indonesia
These six Marapu amulets are part of the history of the eastern Sumba region's ethnic culture. They are of exceptional quality; the patina and original usage incrustations of wood represent human and anthropomorphic figures in almost plastic positions. Extremely rare objects of modern tribal beauty. The art and tribal culture of the island of Sumba are no less than those of the other Indonesian ethnicities that are more well-known and collected. The amulets measure 13x8x3 cm for the largest to 5x4x2 cm for the smallest.
They can be dated to the first half of the 1900s and come from a private collection of an anthropologist from northern Italy who collected them on-site in the village of Watuhadangu. The amulets come with a custom base. The photos are an integral part of the description.
