WINE VARIETIES: Old vines.

VINIFICATION
Quinta de Vargellas stands out among the wine estates of the Douro. Located in the wild and mountainous region of the Douro Valley, it has been considered a source of the finest Port wines since the 1820s. Today it is among the great vineyards of the world. In years where a Taylor’s Vintage is not declared, the decision to bottle a Single Quinta Vintage Port may be made. It is made entirely with grapes grown on the Vargellas property and bears the name of the property on the label. A Quinta de Vargellas Vintage Port generally matures earlier than declared Taylor’s Vintages. Often quite approachable when young, they will mature well for many years if raised.

2004 TASTING NOTES
Powerful, pungent, aromatic nose with ripe, rich, juicy, berry fruit aromas; overlaid with wonderful characteristic floral notes. This wine has a bouquet with great depth and layers of intense fresh fruit. On the palate, the freshness of berry fruit continues, combining with rich chocolate and liquorice flavours of equal intensity. The tannins are firm but well integrated, resulting in a beautifully structured and balanced wine. Texturally the wine is smooth and silky, leaving one with the sensation of a well crafted, stylish, extremely elegant wine.

2015 TASTING NOTES
Deep ruby-black core with a narrow purple-red rim. A classic Vargellas nose, fine, elegant and poised with a linear surge of pure singing, woodland infused with a plummy freshness and hints of citrus and fresh quince. A subtle spiciness, with hints of nutmeg, anise and cacao, emerges from behind the fruit. The tell-tale Vargellas floral scent is more reminiscent of jasmine than the signature aura of violets and mingles with the minty, resiny notes of wild herbs. A discreet minerality provides an attractively firm edge. Typically of Vargellas, the palate is supported by taut, sinewy tannins and the grippy finish delivers a burst of clean, fresh berry fruit flavour. A very fine single-quinta Vintage Port, confident and in perfect balance.

2022 TASTING NOTES
Deep purple black with a narrow magenta rim. Exuberant, powerful, fresh blackcurrant and cherry nose. Finesse, elegance and poise with a linear push of woodland fruit, hints of plum and a kiss of citrus and quince. This dense backdrop is overlaid with an enchanting grapey freshness that builds as the nose develops. The floral scents which are the hallmark of Vargellas are present, the characteristic violet fragrances intertwining with delicate blossom and herbal notes. A wave of clean berry fruit flows through the palate from beginning to end. The tannins are firm but well integrated, providing plenty of grip and an attractive touch of austerity. A fine single quinta Vintage Port, with perfect balance and confidence.

SERVING
Walnuts, blue veined and other richly flavoured cheeses are excellent accompaniments to Vintage Port; so too are dried fruits such as apricots or figs. Serve at 16ºC to 18ºC. Vintage Port is best drunk one to two days after opening.

HISTORY
Created more than three centuries ago, in 1692, Taylor's is one of the oldest Port wine trading houses dedicated exclusively to the production of Port wine and, especially, its best styles. As an independent company whose success is inseparable from the success of the Douro region itself, Taylor’s remains committed to protecting this beautiful region by practicing viticulture that is both economically and environmentally sustainable. The future of the Douro Valley and its unique environment is also the future of Port wine, one of the world's great classic wines and an irreplaceable part of humanity's heritage. For many, Taylor's is the most illustrious Port wine producer and drinking its wines is the most sublime of experiences.
