Important ancient painting from the 17th - 18th Century collection

Still life with game
Majestic painting of exceptional quality and elegance, attributed to the master Felice Boselli (Piacenza, April 20, 1650 – Parma, August 23, 1732). In excellent condition and with important proportions: 130 x 97 cm.
The painting under analysis refers in style and subject to Felice Boselli, an Emilian painter known for his still lifes, of which he produced around a hundred works.
He was a painter active mainly in Parma and in his hometown, where he studied and entered the world of painting under the guidance of Michelangelo Nuvolone, the brother of the more famous Giuseppe. It was in that workshop that he got to know Angelo Crivelli, (known as the Crivellone), an animal painter specialized in game, who significantly influenced his style along with the Cremonese school, the Bergamasque school of Baschenis, Bartolomeo Bettera's, the Roman school of Michelangelo Cerquozzi, as well as the Flemish one.
The other foundations of his pictorial personality derived from the study and observation of regional and local still lifes, from Parmigianino regarding the figurations, and from the Butcher Shop by Annibale Carracci for the recurring themes and scenes.
Thanks to his works, spread somewhat everywhere in the homes of the nobles of Piacenza and Parma, he has been given the opportunity to lead a comfortable life; the style and the humble rural language were nonetheless the foundation of his works and his success.
The painting has stylistic affinities with "Game with children playing with a dog" (Parma, National Gallery) and with the pair of paintings "Old Man and Girl with Game" (Collection of the Marquis Meli Lupi di Soragna Tarasconi) both dated to 1708/1710.
His thick painting becomes increasingly filamentous in these works of maturity, working especially with light colors on a dark background, which makes the surface almost pulsating and dripping with material, a use of chromatic paste that has always been his specificity, but whose accentuation reveals the reception of the novelty and quality of a Crespi, and at least an operational understanding of that new style more "brilliant" but "true," of that "touch seeing" that characterizes the new century that has opened.
