HISTORY OF THE LABRADORITE STONE
Originating from the Labrador region in Canada, labradorite was discovered by Moravian missionaries in 1770 while they were there to work with certain indigenous peoples, notably the Inuit. They were tasked with evangelizing them. The Innu (Montagnais-Naskapis) and Inuit peoples believed that labradorite was nothing less than a stone of fire resulting from the northern and southern auroras on the planet. According to them, it was frozen by the cold at its peak and then fell to the ground. Labradorite is named after the geologist Foster, who first called it that in 1780. He simply chose this name in reference to its place of discovery, the Canadian region of Labrador.
