Second edition published a year after the original. Collection established in 1821 at the death of the Emperor, published and immediately sold out, which gathered pieces that had appeared separately such as the Notebook of a traveler, or collection of curious notes on the life, occupations, and habits of Buonaparte at Longwood (1819) the Historical Summary of events related to the captivity of Bonaparte since his departure from Rochefort, or the account of Monkhouse followed by General Facts related to the captivity of Bonaparte; "We do not hesitate to assert that this collection offers the most complete assemblage of everything related to the captivity, the final moments, and the death of Napoleon."
Complete set of the 5 engravings under serpents announced, 4 in color "View of Longwood House taken from the Florist's Garden" "View of Longwood House taken from the path leading to Deadwood" "View of Napoleon Bonaparte's new residence taken from Lieutenant Jackson's house" "Sketch (Napoleon Bonaparte) from nature, drawn on March 6, 1821 (Two months before his death)" and a folding plate, Bonaparte on his deathbed, in black and white.
Binding of the period, olive green half-calf, smooth spine adorned, title and rich decoration with gold tools. Golden centerpiece on the covers (cardboard) and golden rolls for framing.
Condition: first cover split (solid flat), frictions and micro-tears on the caps. Punched corners. Light damp stains on the edges of the pages (barely visible, the paper slightly warped). Color plates in good condition, damp stains and foxing on the folding plate (Bonaparte on his deathbed). Reasonable condition.
Provenance: copy from Jacques Alexandre Faure (1899-1995), with his motto "nova aperire" and a key adorned with the heraldic emblem of the wolf.
