ORIGINAL ceremonial brass bell incl stand from the Minangkabau people of West Sumatra Bronze bell, finely crafted, decorated with a geometric patterns, topped with a large ring for handling or fixing. Signed with Ranah Minang. Beautiful patina of age. Provenance: collected on site in 1989 by me in Sumatra. Comes from small village Tapan where it was used at ceremonies. The Minangkabau people of West Sumatra, Indonesia, view the physical world as having two distinct components, Ranah Minang (which is itself further divided) and the rantau. Ranah Minang is the traditional, ancient homeland of the group, while the rantau is everything beyond the boundaries of their ancestral lands. The bell has similarities with the style of buildings (houses) of Minangkabau! One of the finer examples of a ceremonial lbell with typical Minangkabau shape, in quality brass and decorated fine artwork. A true beautiful piece with no restorations / repairs and fully original which has an incredible patina and high quality craftmanship. BTW I have never seen one before ...
