Miriam Chiera (1969) - COMPOSITION ON RED. XXL .

SERIES: SCHOOLWORK 2025. Building on his previous work, Chiera continues his profound exploration of form and color, delving into compositions with defined contours yet a distinctive painterly quality. Refined to simplified curves and formations, his work avoids recognizable references, inviting the viewer to consider themes that transcend context or direct representation. Influenced by 20th-century abstraction and modernist design, Chiera places equal importance on process and form. In this series, the artist draws inspiration from concepts such as repetition, cataloging, and methods of study, which he describes as tasks or labour. Before painting, Chiera experiments with compositions using cut paper and transparency projections, revealing positive and negative gestures. These initial exercises in spatial exploration guide the direction of the work, establishing a foundation for visual engagement. As form and color come together, their interactions unfold as playful conversations, where elements vibrate against one another and settle into visual harmony. Each composition achieves a balance accentuated by the range of scale and distribution, creating a flow that is constant yet synchronized. With SCHOOLWORK, Chiera embarks on a new approach, proposing painting as a means of self-directed study. By breaking down the parts to form a whole, the work reveals how the elements communicate through a dynamic and active visual language. Biography: Miriam Chiera is an Italian-Argentine contemporary artist based in Senigallia, Italy. She studied Interior Design at the Faculty of Architecture of the Universidad Nacional del Litoral, Argentina, and also studied art at the Verona Academy of Art, Italy. She was born in a small town in Argentina, surrounded by vast expanses of countryside, to a family of Italian immigrant farmers. Although her roots are steeped in Italian culture, her art carries the spirit of the land where she grew up. Small marks and symbols are scattered across her canvases, interweaving cubism, constructivism and abstract geometry with the essence of her work: the language of color. Surrounded by the immensity of nature, with infinite horizons and a deep sense of freedom, she found inspiration in large-scale creations. Although she studied Interior Design at the Universidad Nacional del Litoral, her path to painting began in her early years, it was during her residency in the city of Romeo and Juliet, where she studied at the Accademia di Arte in Verona, when she realized that painting was her true calling. Miriam’s works have been selected to be exhibited in international competitions, galleries, museums and events. 2017 – Selected for the Biennial of Fine Arts, Friends of Art, Ceres, Argentina. 2019 – XII Salvador Massa Regional Painting Salon, Argentina. 2019 – Finalist in the 3rd Painting Contest, 56th Anniversary Fundación 25 de Junio, Rosario, Argentina. 2019 – Selected for the 66th National Annual Exhibition of Arts, Ceres, Argentina. 2019 – Finalist at the XXIII Spring Hall, Museum of Visual Arts, Santa Fe, Argentina. 2019 – Finalist at the Regional Annual Exhibition of Artists, Museum H. Borla, Esperanza, Argentina. 2020 – Finalist at the XXIV Spring Hall, Municipal Museum of Visual Arts, Argentina. 2021 – Finalist at the XXVI Spring Hall, Santa Fe, Argentina. 2023 – Participant in the Chorlton Arts Festival, Manchester, United Kingdom. Her works are part of private collections around the world. Today she lives in Senigallia, Italy, after traveling through many cities: Milan, Verona, Ancona, Barcelona, Manchester, Buenos Aires, Rosario and her hometown, Ceres. Each place has left its mark on her art, shaping the vision and expression that flows through her work. Artist Statement: A work of art is far more than a fashionable object, a fleeting trend, or a decorative element designed to solve a spatial issue. I create paintings with the hope that they become a window through which you can tell yourself a story-where the art interacts with your life in a meaningful way. Each piece carries its own imprint, a soul, an energy that transforms it into a living presence within your space. My aspiration is for my art to move you, to evoke a desire to possess it, to immerse yourself in its essence, and to enjoy its company each morning as you stand before it.
