Mask - wood, raffia - kwese - Congo DRC
The art of the Kwésé is poorly known. One can presume that it is close, in many respects, to that of the Suku. Among the Kwésé, the generic term for expressing a mask is Mukishi. Like their neighbors, masks were used for circumcision and initiation ceremonies. They may appear on the occasion of burial or the investiture of a chief. Note an important characteristic among the Kwésé: the faces are often heart-shaped.
