Association of numerous ammonites in a ferruginous oolitic limestone.
Fossils collected from the spoil of the old iron mines in the Saint-Quentin-Fallavier / La Verpillière area, Isère, France. (Site now inaccessible).
The plate contains several specimens of Leioceras opalinum and Leioceras comptum.
The ammonites are between 2 and 4.5 cm in diameter. The plate is also composed of many larger fragments. Only one side has been cleaned.
Period: Aalenian (Middle Jurassic): 174.7 Ma - 170.9 Ma (see International Chronostratigraphic Chart. Version 2023/06. International Commission on Stratigraphy. www.stratigraphy.org).
State of preservation: The ammonites are very well preserved. The specimens have been brushed with colorless liquid wax. Plate in one block.
This is a magnificent and exceptional collector's item.
