. This impressive ceremonial celt, measuring 32 cm, was field collected in 1988 from Papua. Crafted from stunning green-grey jade (nephrite), it was traditionally used as tribal currency, particularly in high-status land transactions and important exchanges.
Such oversized celts were highly valued and symbolized wealth, power, and social status within indigenous Papuan communities. The polished surface and natural patina reflect its authentic age and ritual significance.
