Rug - 300 cm - 216 cm - Samar Kandi

Our Samarkand carpets are named after a traditional trading place in the Orient - the city of Samarkand in Uzbekistan. Samarkand carpets were produced in the late 19th century by the renowned Swiss trading family Ziegler. Due to the political unrest in the Persian Empire and the strong demand for carpets from the West, Ziegler decided to establish his own production in Sultanabad, Pakistan, and hire some of the best carpet weavers to meet this growing demand. Samarkand carpets are hand-knotted with approximately 350,000 knots/m2 and promise very high quality.

Today, Samarkand rugs stand for exceptional quality and modern, oriental-inspired patterns. The rugs draw their inspiration from classic Persian rug design. The wool used is of high quality and the color palette made from natural plant dyes is softer and more subtle than that of Persian rugs. The shorter pile makes it easy to keep the rug clean.
