Storyteller puppets - Santal - Bihar - India (No Reserve Price)
Movable story-telling puppets used during Santal festivals and weddings. These story-telling puppets represent a line of dancing female ancestors.
The Santal people are a population group in Bihar in northeastern India. These dolls were previously shown in a diorama that was used by traveling storytellers to illustrate folk tales.
Many of these dolls were distributed by traders in Kathmandu, in the middle and at the end of the twentieth century, along with other tangible aspects of Santal culture, such as dodro banam (bowed musical instruments), flutes, and palkee panels (part of the wedding dowry).
Shows signs of use and age.
Comes with the stand.
