Early Art Deco Cache pot / Jardinière – Céramique de Bruxelles, ca. 1900-1930
Beautiful early Art Deco cache-pot / jardinière, made by the Belgian factory Céramique de Bruxelles in the early 20th century. This hand-painted earthenware piece is executed in deep cobalt blue on a cream-colored ground, with a refined floral and geometric decoration. The combination of stylized plant motifs and symmetrical patterns is characteristic of the transitional period between late Art Nouveau and early Art Deco.
The cache pot has a spherical body with a wide opening and a subtly profiled rim, making it ideal for both decorative and functional use. The glaze shows a beautiful crackle patina, which contributes to the authentic appearance. The underside is marked with the oval factory stamp ‘Céramique de Bruxelles’, and also bears an impressed shape code.
Céramique de Bruxelles was a Belgian ceramics factory active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The factory specialized in high-quality decorative pottery, often inspired by French faience, Delft traditions, and oriental designs. Their work was known for its richly decorated, hand-painted finishes and innovative glazing techniques. In the Art Nouveau period, the factory produced decorative pieces that combined influences from Jugendstil and Islamic art, and in the early Art Deco period they employed geometric patterns and more rigid forms.
Today, pieces by Céramique de Bruxelles are sought after by collectors, particularly for their rarity and artistic quality. This piece is a beautiful example of early 20th century Belgian craftsmanship and a valuable addition to any ceramics collection.
