Mathurin Jousse (ca. 1575-1645), known as the Elder, was a French master locksmith, architectural theorist and technical writer.
Here he wrote a treatise on locksmithing, in which he reasoned the choice of material using recipes, and in particular the use of iron according to the appearance of its breakage, thus inaugurating the beginning of a long tradition which, through Réaumur, was to lead to metallography.
In particular, he obtained a privilege for the ensemble including "The Theatre of the Art of Carpentry", granted on March 10, 1626.
Rare copy.
