Martino Gamper's 'Chair of the Rings' is a remarkable design that showcases his signature approach to reinterpreting and reconstructing existing forms.

Design concept:
The chair is a reinterpretation of Thonet's classic bentwood chairs.
Gamper worked at the Thonet factory in Mundus, Croatia, where he collected old components from various Thonet models.
He then reassembled these pieces, creating new forms of chairs. This “reassembly” is a characteristic of Gamper’s work.
The name of the chair, "Chair of the Rings", is said to be inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien's trilogy, The Lord of the Rings.
Production and context:
The “Chair of the Rings” was created in 2008.
It was commissioned by The Conran Shop for their 'Inspirations' exhibition in London.
Thonet produced the resulting designs for display in the Conran Shop boutiques in London, Paris and Tokyo.
The chair can be considered a limited edition, due to the way it was sold.
