R.E.M. - fourteen limited CD-singles with loads of extras and albums - Multiple titles - CD box set - 1991
Out of time was one of R.E.M.s biggest stellers. No wonder as it had many wonderful hits. Those are on now offer, in a much-wanted very rare limited cd-box-set which combines four special-editions with the album. Also on offer two more albums and seven limited edition cd-singles.
R.E.M. are one of those bands that take their songs and their singles very seriously. Those bands never just release a single, there are special B-sides, live-versions or alternative mixes to be enjoyed. As is the case here. Please take note of all the extra’s.
First is a CD-box with four singles plus the Out of time-album. Sleeves are specially designed. The records themselves all contain three extra- live-recorded songs. Together the four singles contain a real live album by R.E.M.
1. Losing my religion/Stand, Turn you inside out, World leader pretend. Warner, 9362 40046, 1991. Just as famous for its video. It earned them 3 Grammy’s and 6 MTV-awards. The Youtube-version is the first of REM to get over a billion vieus. The song was written by Peter Buck, who was mastering the mandolin.
2. Shiny Happy People/Remember California, Get up, Pop songs ’89. Warner 9362 40079, 1991. Originally menta ls the theme-song of friends, until the Rembrandts joined in. Stipe described the song as a real fruity piece of bubble gum. The title came from a Chinese propaganda slogan.
3. Near wild heaven/Toms diner, Low, Endgame. Warner, 9362-40178, 1991. First-ever REM-single with words cowritten by Mike Mills, not just Stipe. Toms diner was sung incognito as they gave a surprise concert in London as Bingo Hand Job.
4. Radio Song, Warner 9362- 40251, 1991. Includes small poster of the band with KRS-one. Stipe hoped that everyone would get that it were satirical lyrics.
5. Out of time Warner, 9362- 40046, 1991. Winner of three Grammy’s this album made the cross-over from cult band tot much loved international superstars. In the States, the release of the CD was combined with an action to get young people to vote
Other singles:
6 Crush with eyeliner/ Fall on me (live), Me in honey (live), Finest worksong (live) Warner, 9362 41904, 1995. Third single from album Monster. One of the first songs Stipe write after his writers block following the death of his friend River Phoenix. Clip directed by Spike Jonze. All live tracks were recorded in Athens, Georgia, on November 19, 1992. The performance, a benefit for Greenpeace, was recorded on a solar-powered mobile studio.
7 Drive/ It’s a free world, Winged mammal theme, First we take Manhattan. Warner, 9362 40633, 1992. First single from Automatic, and first one Stipe ever wrote on a computer. Track 2 and 3 never before released, track 4 from compilation I’m your fan, cover-versions. Winged Mammal was for the batman movie.
8 Everybody hurts/ New Orleans Instrumental no. 1 (long version), Mandolin Strum (prev unreleased) Warner, 9362 40860 1993. Collectors item: Number one of a two part series. Mandolin Strum never before released. Mostly composed by drummer Bill Berry, it does not have his drumming: he programmed a computer. He wrote that "the reason the lyrics are so atypically straightforward is because it was aimed at teenagers",
9 Everybody hurts/ Chance (dub), Dark Globe (prev unreleased) Warner, 9362 40863, 1993, Number two of a two part series. Chance and Dark Globe never before released. Michael Stipe wanted the vocals of Patti Smith too, but that did not work out.
10 Find the river/ Everybody hurts (live), Orange crush (instrumental). Warner 9362 41215, 1993. First two tracks from Automatic. Everybody Hurts recorded at MTV awards. Last and least successful single of Automatic. Ornage Crush was never released as single

12 The sidewinder sleeps tonight/ Organ song, Star me kitten. Warner 9362 40769, 1993. Included to make Automatic a tad lighter of tone. In tnhe Us the B-side was The lion sleeps tonight. Halfway through, you can hear Michael laughing.
Also two albums
13 Automatic for the people. Warner, 9362 45055, 1992. The four started working on this album while Out of Time was still climbing the charts. Some singles stem from those earlier sessions. Overall tone is darker, with orchestra parts arranged by John Paul jones of Led Zeppelin. The whole album was recorded without Michael who then wrote the lyrics.
14 New adventures in Hi-Fi Warner, 9362 46320, 1996. The last album in their famed line-up, with Bill Berry leaving after. They learned from their opening act, Radiohead, to records parts of their tour and use these as basic tracks. On vinyl it was a double album.
All records are in sublime condition, not a scratch on them. Check the pics! Most cd-boxes pristine too, and can easily be replaced if not. Will be send by registerd mail.
