Bronze
28 cm excluding base (30 cm)
Bronze sculpture representing Buddha taking the earth to witness on a high throne. The influence of the kingdom of Champassak on the style of the sculpture is reflected in a certain simplicity and purity of lines, without too many exuberant details. The statue is strongly influenced by an ethnic or even folkloric style. The face is finely sculpted. The Buddha has almost closed eyes, expressing meditative concentration. The nose is large and flattened, strongly marking itself. The mouth is also marked by large thick lips. A very special face.
Condition: Original gold. Original patina. Broken at the throne. Some losses and breakages.
Provenance: ex Belgian collection
