The hyperinflation in the Weimar Republic (1921–1924) was one of the most extreme economic crises in history. Following World War I, Germany faced massive reparations under the Treaty of Versailles. To meet these payments, the government printed excessive amounts of money, causing the Reichsmark to lose almost all value.

By late 1923, prices skyrocketed—bread cost billions of marks, and wages were paid daily to keep up with inflation. People used banknotes as wallpaper or fuel, as they were worth less than firewood. The crisis peaked when one US dollar equaled 4.2 trillion marks.

Hyperinflation ended with the introduction of the Rentenmark in late 1923 and financial stabilization under the Dawes Plan (1924). However, the crisis devastated savings, deepened public distrust in democracy, and contributed to the rise of extremist movements, including the Nazis.

This occurs when one user's bid is exactly the same as an automatic (maximum) bid placed by another user earlier. Since the auto-bid was placed first, this takes preference.
