Grotii dissertatio de mari libero; et libellus singularis de aequitate, indulgentia, & facilitate. Edidit atque praefatus est Meinardus Tydeman. 

Trajecti ad Rhenum (Utrecht), ex off. Ioannis a Schoonhoven & soc. (Johannes van Schoonhoven), 1773. 20 x 13 x 7 cm. Perkamenten prijsband met wapen van Amsterdam op beide kanten, vergulde rugversiering en resten van linten. Gegraveerde titel en frontispice. XLVIII, 1048, 43 (Mare Liberum), 35 (register) p. Op de rug een oudtijds met inkt geschreven titel plus uitgelopen inktvlek. Band aan de randen iets versleten, wat grauw. Van binnen gaaf, mooi en onbeschreven.

Degelijke klassieke uitgave van het standaardwerk van Hugo de Groot, met Amsterdamse prijsband, maar geen spoor van een schoolprijs. Met commentaren van J.F. Gronovius en Jean Barbeyrac. Editie en voorwoord zijn van Meinard Tydeman (1741-1825), die van 1766-1790 hoogleraar te Utrecht was. Hij was overigens een voorvader van Mary Dresselhuys.

'De iure belli ac pacis (Over het recht van oorlog en vrede) is een boek van Hugo de Groot uit 1625. In dit boek wordt beschreven wanneer een staat of soeverein vorst het recht heeft om een andere staat of soeverein vorst aan te vallen, en op welke manier dat dient te gebeuren. Het is oorspronkelijk in het Latijn geschreven, zoals in die tijd gebruikelijk was. Hugo de Groot noemde zich dan ook wel Hugo Grotius. De Groot voltooide het werk in Frankrijk nadat hij gevlucht was uit de Republiek. Het boek is eeuwen als richtlijn aangehouden voor het oorlogsrecht' (bron: Wikipedia).
