Antoine Bouvet, Les Monts de La Vallèe and Millesime 2018 - Champagne Extra Brut - 2 Bottles (0.75L)
Antoine is the nephew of Guy Bouvet, who in 1970 founded the small Champagne maison Guy Bouvet in Mareuil-sur-Ay. We are located in the heart of the Reims Mountain, a stone's throw from Epernay, where limestone soils rich in chalk predominate and a lot of champenoise tradition of the highest level predominate.
Antoine has clear ideas, despite his young age, and thanks to the peasant wisdom of grandfather Guy, he elaborates his champagnes with great naturalness and thickness. The numbers are very limited, no more than about 600 bottles per cuveee.
The vineyard heritage is limited but of great quality. Averagely old plants that are managed with great sensitivity by applying biodynamic methods. Same philosophy that is applied in the cellar, spontaneous fermentations and minimal possible intervention. Certainly one of those names that are establishing themselves among the "very young".
THE MOUNTAINS OF THE VALLEY
Antoine Bouvet's Les Monts de la Vallée Champagne is an elegant Blanc de Noirs produced entirely from Pinot Noir grapes from vineyards about 40 years old, located in the eastern part of the Vallée de la Marne, in the prestigious terroirs of Bisseuil, Mareuil-sur-Aÿ and Aveney Val d'Or, all villages classified as Premier Cru. This cuvée comes from the 2020/2021 harvest, with an initial winemaking of 8 months in fût de chêne, followed by an aging on the yeasts for about 24 months and a final dosage of 0 g/l, characterizing it as Extra Brut.
To the eye, the slightly nuanced color reveals the essence of a Pinot Noir in purity, already suggesting the power and complexity that will follow the nose and palate. On the nose, Les Monts de la Vallée expresses a wide and captivating bouquet, with notes of fresh red fruits, such as strawberries and cherries, intertwined with floral shades and a touch of chalky minerality. This aromaticity is both lively and delicately seductive, with nuances that refer to the freshness of spring, but with an intriguing depth thanks to the wooden passage, which introduces slight hints of hot apple and delicate toasted notes. In the mouth, it is an energetic, well-balanced and lively wine, which combines freshness and structure with remarkable depth and intensity. The aromatic complexity evolves gracefully, accompanying a long and mineral finish. It is a Champagne of extraordinary elegance, direct but never rigid, which invites the next sip thanks to its irresistible fullness and expressiveness. A true masterpiece signed Antoine Bouvet, which enchants for its ability to convey the unique character of the Pinot Noir of the Vallée de la Marne.
