In 1994, German artist Ottmar Hörl placed his installation ‘Flying Splice – Sponti Gnome (Non-conformist Gnome)’ in Seligenstadt. As many as 1000 blue garden gnomes were spread out in groups or individually throughout the city. In random order, they unexpectedly appeared in different parts of the city. They were then left to their fate until someone took them away. The disappearance of the gnomes from the cityscape one by one was an essential part of the art project. Since the project was part of the public, there was therefore no change of owner in the true sense of the word. The disappearance was in principle only a movement from one position to another in the sense of a ‘Flying Splice’. The Sponti gnome with raised middle finger was reissued in 2006 in an adapted version.
The image is weather resistant.
This Garden Gnome by German artist Ottmar Horl is part of a series of Garden Gnomes he created.
