Lucio Del Pezzo (Naples, 13 December 1933 – Milan, 12 April 2020[1]) was an Italian artist, painter and sculptor.

Biography
Among the founders of the Group 58 of Naples,[2] of neo-surrealist and neo-Dadaist orientation, Del Pezzo also collaborated with the magazine Documento Sud.[3]

His works from 1958-1960 featured assemblages of various objects, including fragments of prints and popular images.[4]

In 1960 he moved to Paris, then to Milan, where several monographic exhibitions were dedicated to him. The first dates back to 1974.[5]

Since 1962 Del Pezzo has created his own typical repertoire of "pictures" or "sculptures", made up of monochrome geometric panels, on which shelves or hollowed out concavities are inserted, which support regular geometric objects (skittles, wooden eggs, bowls, mannequins, etc.) sometimes very colorful. In his object-paintings and in his assemblages the playful aspect is always present.

Due to their ironic tone and the use of decontextualized everyday objects, these works refer to Pop Art; but there is an evident recovery of Giorgio De Chirico, Carlo Carrà, Giorgio Morandi (Motivo, 1967) and the geometries of metaphysical painting.

Lucio Del Pezzo passed away in Milan on 12 April 2020.[6]
