Endless Night(First Edition)
Miyako Ishiuchi
Asahi Sonorama/1981/Japanese/215*285*20/Main book spine: torn/Box not included
Box: Slight dust spots and stains, minor scuffing, and a small dent on the lower part of the spine.
Main book: Slight age-toning on the top edge, with minimal wear at the corner of the top edge.
Endless Night (First Edition), a collection of photographs by Miyako Ishiuchi, one of Japan's leading female photographers. Ishiuchi was originally known for her ‘monochrome’ work. The deep contrasts that seem to convey the smell of ink are very impressive. In order to record the ‘physiological reactions’ of the photographer, Ishiuchi worked in the darkroom himself, digesting his own reactions and sensations to create his ‘works of art’. Ishiuchi's representative monochrome works, known as the ‘early trilogy’, are Apartment (1978), Zesshou: Yokosuka Story (1979) and this book, Renya no Machi. The content is based on the motifs of red-light districts and brothels throughout Japan, and includes texts by Yoshiyuki Junnosuke. There is also a snapshot of Miyako Ishiuchi, photographed by Nobuyoshi Araki, in the back of the book.
