【Product details】

This exquisite natsume tea caddy, crafted by Kaga maki-e artist Kadode Shoyusai, features a stunning depiction of the Uji landscape in maki-e and nashiji techniques.

The exterior showcases a black lacquer base adorned with a full moon above a continuous mountain range on the lid, while the sides depict the scenic beauty of Uji, a town famed for its tea culture, historic architecture, and harmonious natural surroundings. The design is accentuated with scattered nashiji details, adding a luminous pear-skin texture that enhances the elegance of the composition. The interior and underside are finished entirely in nashiji, offering a shimmering gold surface that complements the exterior design.

Maki-e is a traditional Japanese decorative art that uses gold or silver powder sprinkled onto wet lacquer to create intricate designs. Nashiji, a technique employing gold or silver flecks, produces a distinctive texture resembling pear skin, contributing depth and subtle brilliance to the surface.

Kadode Shoyusai is a distinguished member of the Kaga Art Association and has been awarded the Kaga City Mayor's Prize and the Yamanaka Town Mayor's Prize, both preserved in perpetuity. His craftsmanship is a testament to the rich tradition of Kaga maki-e artistry.
The tea caddy is housed in its original wooden box, which bears the artist's signature and seal.

In good condition with minimal signs of wear. There is a scratch on part of the lid (as shown in image 8). Please refer to the photos for detailed condition.
