I started photography at the age of 13. From 2 months old, I suffered from TB in my back bone.
Following this, my theme in photography was HOPE.
Because of the TB I had endured from such a young age, I built up a lot of desperation and isolation at the time.
Several years before turning 20, my doctor told me that if I was careful I would continue to live a strong and healthy life.
I moved to London when I was 23 to restart my life and build on my passion of photography, I remained there for around 10 years.
I was quite poor when I arrived in London and most of the time I was a lodger in some of my friend’s flats.
Whilst living there I was able to connect with many interesting people, including musicians, by chance. For instance, I met a bloke called George in a flat in Goodge street, who later turned out to be Boy George….
I was lucky enough to bump in to Joe Strummer of The Clash on the London Tube.
I turned to him and asked him if he would be kind enough to let me take some Photographs of him and he answered, “You can click away of whatever you want, That’s Punk”.
These words became the title of this book, as it resonated with me and hopefully it will give others courage, energy and HOPE.
In the last period of my LONDON era I was lucky enough to get some jobs working for Japanese music magazines and for record companies.
This enabled me to photograph more musicians and meet many more people.
These photo sessions were probably not important to them, but they remained sincere and gave me generous feedback that reflects on the photographs that I took.
I really like to thank them all for their contributions which made my life in London a truly memorable one.
